The Goethe-Institut Nigeria supports Nigerian artists and cultural experts in implementing their projects.
For the last years, the Goethe-Institut Nigeria has supported a wide range of projects created and implemented by Nigerian artists and initiatives in various art forms: Music, contemporary dance, photography, [documentary] films, theatre, visual arts and many more. Goethe-Institut also supports artists, who are invited to German festivals but don't have enough funding to join. We regard this support as a very crucial and important one in order to give young and upcoming people in the cultural landscape of Nigeria a chance to be heard and seen.
Target group and requirements:
Artists and cultural initiatives (no individuals) that work professionally and have at least 3 years of experience
The project idea has to be already developed and has reached a certain level of preparation
An invitation to a German festival is already issued by the organisers
The project has to be implemented in the second half of the year 2018, latest by December 10, 2018
Only completely and correctly filled out application forms will be considered
The initiative has to be registered and has a bank account
The film will be screened in German with English subtitles. 1772: The 23-year-old law student, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, flunks his oral exams. His angry father sends him to the Imperial High Court in Wetzlar. Goethe, who dreams of a career as a poet and has to digest the rejection of his play Götz von Berlichingen, falls in love with Charlotte Buff. But her father has betrothed promised her to another man. Goethe reacts to his misfortune by writing The Sorrows of Young Werther - and overnight, the novel makes him the new star of German literature.
The film is screened as part of Goethe Institut’s monthly film club which is open to everyone interested in German cinema. The films screened in German with English subtitles, which makes them suitable for all language levels.

In 2018, the Goethe-Institut Nigeria in the context of its partnership with the Center for Art and Urbanistics [ZK/U - Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik] in Berlin, the cultural office of local government Berlin Mitte, SAVVY Contemporary Art Space Berlin and the Arthouse Foundation [Arthouse Contemporary Ltd.] in Lagos, continues with a residency programme for artists and curators from Berlin and Lagos.
The call is directed towards artists and curators that work professionally in their fields and have made a broad range of projects as well as some years of exhibition experience.
The following costs are covered by the exchange program: accommodation and working space at the Arthouse Foundation travel expenses Berlin- Lagos [economy class], visa fee, per diem

Speakers took turn to share their experience and challenges on the cost to becoming the lady they are today. It was a night not just for women as a number of men also came out to cheer their wives and/or sisters on!
At the end it brought to fore [again] the intricacies and importance of women to the home and society at large.
It was a night of all things beautiful. There was music, poetry, networking session and whole lot more.
The convener, Tomide Olukuade, promises to bring back this unique medium for women's expression very soon, and on a more consistent basis not just in Lagos but across different cities in the African continent.
